A nurse based at University Hospitals of North Midlands (UHNM) has received a national award in recognition of her work caring and supporting people with bowel cancer.
At Bowel Cancer UK's Gary Logue Colorectal Cancer Nurse Awards, Dorothy Munyanyi, lead colorectal clinical nurse specialist at UHNM, was presented with the 'colleague-nominated' award.
The awards recognise colorectal cancer nurses across the country who have had a significant impact on those affected by bowel cancer.
Dorothy's team chose to nominate her for the award because of her clinical leadership and work to improve colorectal cancer care, including developing a nurse-led follow-up pathway to ensure patients needing high-risk surveillance receive timely monitoring and any potential concerns are identified early.
She also led the development of colorectal cancer patient information at UHNM, working with patients and colleagues to create written and visual resources to help people better understand their diagnosis, treatment and follow-up care
